CHAMBERSBURG – An almost 80 page report from the Maryland Comptroller’s office has shown that 40,000 people a year are leaving the state of Maryland because it’s just too expensive to live there.
Housing costs are a big reason people are moving to Florida, Texas and even Pennsylvania.
Mike Ross, president of the Franklin County Area Development Corporation said, “In terms of the perception of Maryland, and what becomes the reality of Maryland, when we talk to businesses in Maryland as an example, they believe that they are over regulated. And if that’s the case, from a housing standpoint, that drives the cost of development of housing higher, it becomes obviously less affordable. I think that is a driving factor. We have a small industrial park on Route 16 and Zollinger, the Wharf Road Industrial Park, and it’s really become a fully functioning park. We have several businesses there. Virtually all of them have moved over from Maryland. The regulatory impact of Maryland, and so they have the opportunity to make that move without impacting their life.”…
