Trial Begins for Loudoun Deputy Accused of Raping Inmate

The jury trial for a former Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputy accused of raping an inmate last October began today.

Mason Zimmerman, 31, is charged with two counts of carnal knowledge of a prisoner and one count of rape. He faces a sentence of up to life in prison if convicted.

During opening arguments, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Khaliyah Waters alleged that on Oct. 25, 2024, Zimmerman, after having the cell of a female inmate unlocked, he entered the cell and raped her. She described the victim as a dedicated mother and said that the jury will hear directly from her about the event and what led her to be incarcerated in the first place…
