Family of Loudoun Jail Inmate Who Died by Suicide Files $15M Lawsuit

The estate of a man who died by suicide at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center in 2024 is suing the Sheriff’s Office for $15 million, alleging the agency violated its own policies and failed to take actions that would have saved the inmate’s life.

The family of Luis Michael Santamaria Ferrufino stated in a September filing in the federal Eastern District of Virginia that Ferrufino was arrested for a non-violent crime by sheriff’s deputies on Aug. 29, 2024 and booked into the ADC.
