A multi-vehicle crash involving three cars shut down a stretch of Columbia Pike in eastern Montgomery County Sunday evening, sending one adult to the hospital with serious injuries.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service units were dispatched around 6:09 p.m. to the area of Briggs Chaney Road and Columbia Pike for a reported three-vehicle collision. According to Assistant Chief David Pazos, one vehicle was unoccupied and went over a bridge before catching fire. Another vehicle had one adult trapped inside, who was extricated by responders, while a second adult from that vehicle was able to self-extricate. Both were transported from the scene, with one adult suffering serious injuries. Occupants from the other vehicles declined medical transport.
Montgomery County Police were initially dispatched at approximately 6:07 p.m. and issued a traffic advisory at 6:23 p.m., closing Columbia Pike between Briggs Chaney Road and Castle Boulevard while emergency crews worked the scene.
