New Montgomery County law mandates 14-day eviction notice to aid struggling renters

WASHINGTON — A new law now requires landlords in Montgomery County to give renters facing eviction 14 days’ written notice before an eviction takes place.

On Monday, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich signed off on the law, which more than doubles Maryland’s required time for landlords to give notice.

In Montgomery County, landlords must first give the tenant written notice to pay any back-due rent. If the tenant is unable to meet the deadline for payment, the landlord can file a formal complaint with the District Court to begin the eviction process…
