Last Thursday, Montgomery County Police arrested two juveniles in connection with a series of auto thefts. The 1st District Special Assignment Team (SAT) conducted the sweep along Norbeck Road, which connects the 1st and 4th Districts and has recently been a hotspot for thefts from Kia and Hyundai vehicles.
The investigation progressed when officers spotted two Hyundais traveling together on Norbeck Road around 3:30 a.m., according to the county’s release. The vehicles were followed to a residential area in Gaithersburg, where an officer serving as an Air Support Unit pilot deployed a drone. The drone provided an aerial view that showed the individuals attempting to enter several parked vehicles.
Checks during the surveillance confirmed that one of the Hyundais had been reported stolen. Contact with the registered owner of the second Hyundai revealed that it had also been taken without permission. According to the report, a loaded Glock 19 handgun with a removed serial number, previously reported stolen, was found on one of the suspects at the time of arrest.
