Olney Community Rallies Around Family After Tragic House Fire

The Olney community is rallying around Bill and Effie Poulakis following a devastating house fire that left them without a home, their belongings, and one of their beloved dogs.

As previously reported, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded Friday afternoon to a house fire on Holly View Court. Firefighters arrived to find flames on the exterior of the home that had spread inside. Two occupants escaped with two dogs and called 911. One person was injured and evaluated at the scene. A third dog was located and removed by firefighters but later died due to smoke exposure. The cause of the fire has not yet been announced.

In the days since the fire, neighbors and friends have stepped up to support the Poulakis family, launching a GoFundMe to help them begin rebuilding their lives. According to the fundraiser, the fire destroyed their home and everything inside, leaving them with only the clothes they were wearing…
