New speed cameras in Montgomery County aim to slow down the risk of danger

Safety on the road has been something that has been worked on over the course of many years, whether that is increasing the safety of vehicle technology, such as airbags or emergency automatic braking or increasing the speed monitoring technology on the road. Additionally, with the growing number of student drivers on the road, speeding has become an increasing concern, with students partaking in dangerous activities such as road racing or speeding to arrive at their destination on time. Recently, Montgomery County has increased the number of speed cameras on the road, which helps alleviate safety concerns and helps students practice safe driving.

With the increase in student drivers on the road, a primary concern of people has been the amount of speeding occurring. Many people, both pedestrians and drivers, have tragically lost their lives as a result of speeding. Most students ideally want to be at school on time, which can cause them to rush and fail to notice things, potentially causing a car accident. The new installation of the speed cameras will force students to stay within the boundaries and address safety concerns by making them aware of potential consequences that will come as a result of breaking the law.

“I was aware that a new speed camera was being installed near the school,” WCHS senior Bella Green said. “I notice cars speeding all the time in front of school zones or near campus because most people are in a rush or hurry. I think speeding is a concern for both students who walk and bike to school because the driver could not be paying attention or going too fast and unintentionally cause a major accident.”…
