Four Snow Days Later… Schools Still Closed In Loudoun County After Sunday Storm

For the fourth straight day, school districts in Maryland and Virginia are canceling classes as the region continues digging out from the Sunday snowstorm that caused chaos in the area.

District leaders cited lingering ice, treacherous side roads, and continued concerns about student and staff safety as the reasons for the prolonged closures, as crews continue to battle the widespread freeze triggered by the storm and subsequent cold spell.

The school districts announced early on Wednesday that they will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 29:

Maryland

  • Anne Arundel Public Schools (virtual learning only);
  • Baltimore County Public Schools (virtual learning only);
  • Carroll County Public Schools;
  • Calvert County Public Schools will be on a two-hour delay;
  • Cecil County Public Schools (virtual learning for the rest of the week);
  • Charles County Public Schools (Semester Break has been rescheduled for Thursday);
  • Frederick County Public Schools (offices will open two hours late);
  • Harford County Public Schools (closed the rest of the week);
  • Howard County Public Schools;
  • Montgomery County Public Schools (code red);
  • Prince George’s County Public Schools (closed the rest of the week);
  • St. Mary’s County Public Schools;
  • Washington County Public Schools.

  • Alexandria Public Schools (online learning only);
  • Arlington County Public Schools;
  • Fairfax County Public Schools (two-hour delay for staff);
  • Fredericksburg Public Schools (code red);
  • Loudoun County Public Schools;
  • Prince William County Public Schools will be on a two-hour delay;
  • Spotsylvania County Public Schools;
  • Stafford County Public Schools.

Several colleges in the region also announced that they would be canceling classes…
