Fire engulfs 2 townhomes in Fairfax County

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Large flames and thick black smoke could be seen coming from the Franconia area after two homes caught fire Sunday night.

Minutes after 9 p.m. on Feb. 1, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to multiple calls for a fire quickly spreading in the 6500 block of Gladys May Lane. There, crews found heavy flames spewing from two townhomes.

As a result, firefighters sounded a second alarm.

As of Sunday night, the fire department noted that the bulk of the fire was in the basement, where a “gas-fed” fire continued to spread. Washington Gas was called to the scene.
