FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — The jury in trial of Brendan Banfield, the man accused of killing his wife in an elaborate plot to continue his affair with the family’s au pair, reached a verdict Monday afternoon.
The verdict brings to a close a 3-week trial. Banfield was tried in the killings of his wife, Christine Banfield, and Joseph Ryan, a stranger who was found on a fetish website to enact a “stranger rape” fantasy. Prosecutors sought to prove that Banfield was the mastermind, plotting with the family’s Brazilian au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhaes, in order to continue their affair.
