The state is urging residents to check for unclaimed property as part of Unclaimed Property Day, according to a community announcement.
Unclaimed property can include uncashed checks, insurance proceeds, forgotten dividends and dormant financial accounts. If an account shows no activity for three years, Maryland law requires businesses to report those funds to the state.
Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman and Gov. Wes Moore highlighted the importance of the state’s unclaimed property service, which has been reuniting residents with their lost or forgotten assets for more than 50 years.
