County Council Set to Vote on Immigrant Protections “Trust Act”

The Montgomery County Council is expected to vote on Tuesday, February 10, on the Immigrant Protections (Promoting Community Trust) Act, also known as the Trust Act, which reaffirms the County’s commitment to ensuring residents can access local services without fear or discrimination based on immigration status.

Sponsored by Council President Natali Fani-González and supported by the full Council, the legislation would limit County involvement in civil immigration enforcement, prohibit discriminatory practices, expand access to benefits and services regardless of status, and require certain notices, while maintaining existing criminal law enforcement practices, with committee-recommended amendments addressing information sharing and records retention.
