Friday afternoon turned grim at the busy intersection of Georgia Avenue and Upshur Street NW, where two people were hit by a garbage truck, according to police. One woman was found unconscious but breathing, and another person was discovered unresponsive as emergency crews swarmed the block and sealed off nearby streets while investigators searched for the driver, who took off.
According to WJLA, the Metropolitan Police Department said officers arrived to find one victim “unconscious and breathing” and the other “neither conscious nor breathing.” Police are looking for a white-and-green trash truck marked with the number “244” and branded with WB Waste Solutions LLC, and say the driver left the scene.
Truck Description And Company Background
Police described the vehicle as a white-and-green garbage truck with the number 244 displayed and WB Waste Solutions LLC branding. On its website, the company lists operations across the District, Maryland and Virginia and shows fleet photos that match the general description of the truck involved. WB Waste Solutions says it provides commercial waste and recycling services throughout the region.
Road Closures And Neighborhood Impact
The crash shut down several blocks around the intersection, including parts of the 4000 block of Georgia Avenue and nearby sections of Kansas and Upshur, snarling the Friday-afternoon rush and drawing a heavy police and fire response. WJLA reported the closures as investigators documented the scene and urged drivers to steer clear of the area.
