OWINGS MILLS — Somerset County will be among the featured locations in the next episode of Maryland Farm & Harvest, an original series produced by Maryland Public Television (MPT), now in its 13th season.
The segment titled “Farming in the Yard” will go behind the barbed wire fence and concrete prison units at Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover to focus on a group of inmates who manage the large gardens that grow a variety of produce for the benefit of food-insecure families.
“Incarcerated individuals are selected to participate in the Facilities Farming Program — a collaboration between ECI and the Somerset County Health Department — based on good behavior, enabling them to spend up to six hours per day working the land,” according to MPT…
