Maryland officials launch ‘all-of-government’ push to put millions back in taxpayers’ pockets

GREENBELT, MD—Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman and Governor Wes Moore gathered in Greenbelt on Monday to announce the public launch of the expanded “Earned It” Campaign. The initiative marks a massive, multi-agency effort to ensure Marylanders claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and other vital tax breaks designed to lift families out of poverty.

The EITC, described as the state’s largest anti-poverty program, can provide up to $4,000 to working Marylanders. For many families, this refund represents the equivalent of three months of rent or four months of groceries.

A “Proactive” Approach to Poverty

Governor Moore emphasized that the campaign is a cornerstone of his administration’s mission to eliminate child poverty.

“This is government being proactive — not passive — and working better for the people it serves,” Governor Moore said during the press conference. “We’re meeting people where they are to make sure no Marylander leaves money they earned on the table.”…
