We love a good ruins hike in Maryland, and Annie’s Garden Trail delivers in a big way. While some abandoned hikes in Maryland are more well-known than others, the following hidden spot may be new to you. The best part is this abandoned trek is less than a mile in length. In fact, it’s less than a half-mile long. Read on, and add this easy, historic trail, one of the best hikes in Maryland, to your bucket list.

Ready to seek out the little-known Simpsonville Mill in Maryland? You must start by entering Robinson Nature Center in Columbia, an idyllic day trip destination if you have time. There is much to do at this Maryland nature center, including exploring the educational exhibits and even gazing at the starry sky at the planetarium inside. When the weather cooperates, though, you’ll find just as much do to outside, too, including the Annie’s Garden Trail in Maryland.

At only 0.3 miles in length, most people complete this short and sweet trek in fewer than 10 minutes. While dogs are not allowed on the Annie’s Garden Trail, the paved path is wheelchair-accessible, stroller-friendly, and perfect for an adventure with the kiddos.

Stroll along the flat trail and, eventually, you’ll approach the ruins of Simpsonville Mill. There are No Trespassing signs, as well as a gate around the ruins, so you can’t get too close.

But, that doesn’t mean you can’t snap some beautifully eerie photos. We love how the ruins become enveloped by weeds and vines during warmer months……
