The Commonwealth’s Attorney is facing intense scrutiny after several violent criminal cases in Northern Virginia ended with charges dismissed, reduced or otherwise unresolved in court.
The criticism has come from law enforcement groups, victims’ families and watchdog organizations following a series of developments in cases handled by Steve Descano’s office, with some calling for Descano to be investigated and removed from his position.
“Fairfax County families deserve to feel safe. Virginians deserve a justice system that applies the law fairly and consistently,” read one Change.org petition created last week. “There have been multiple situations where repeat offenders were released or had charges reduced, and later were accused of committing new violent crimes.”…
