Loudoun Valley Estates Makes Final Push for Underground Power Lines

As a ruling by the State Corporation Commission on a proposal by Dominion Energy to build new transmission lines through eastern Loudoun is expected any day, area homeowners associations are making a final push to have a portion of the lines buried underground.

The project, known as Golden to Mars, is part of a planned infrastructure loop designed to increase the reliability in the regional grid and would see new 230- and 500-kilovolt lines constructed.

Dominion’s preferred route would begin near the intersection of Rt. 28 and W&OD Trail and connect to a new substation southeast of Old Ox Road. The lines would pass through densely populated residential areas and near a high school and middle school and require easements from either Loudoun County government or Loudoun County Public Schools.
