Giant Food celebrated a milestone day on May 8, with back-to-back grand reopening ceremonies at its remodeled stores in Vienna, Virginia, and Germantown, Maryland.
The events mark not only a significant investment in the company’s physical footprint but also the grocer’s 90th anniversary, reflecting a legacy that began with the region’s first self-service supermarket.
“This is an exciting time for both the Vienna community and Giant Food, because we are celebrating both the grand reopening and our 90th anniversary,” said Diane Hicks, Giant Food SVP of operations, speaking at the Vienna ceremony. “Since opening our first store as the region’s very first self-service supermarket, we recognize that we are a part of the everyday lives of the people we serve.”
Hicks echoed that sentiment in Germantown, adding, “This grand opening reflects our commitment to providing the best shopping experience for our neighbors.”
Both stores, located at 359 Maple Ave. East in Vienna and 20944 Frederick Road in Germantown, have undergone fresh renovations featuring modernized amenities designed to enhance the customer experience.
