Teen hospitalized after gun malfunctions, explodes at Centreville shooting range

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized after a shotgun exploded in his hands while at a Centreville shooting range on Sunday, according to the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD).

Police said officers responded at 12:24 p.m. to reports of a teen hurt at a skeet and trap shooting range in the 14000 block of Mount Olive Rd.

At the scene, officers determined that a malfunction had caused the shotgun to explode while the teen was using it. The teen was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his hand.
