FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY Tuesday Due To Flooding Potential, More Heavy Rain and Storms On The Way

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Tuesday is a First Alert Weather Day as the concern for isolated flooding remains as possibility with more heavy rain and storms still to come this afternoon and evening.

Flooding lingers across parts of the mountains this morning. And conditions don’t dry out much over the next week as a persistent pattern keeps moisture flowing into the Carolinas. As the potential for heavy rain continues, the potential for isolated flooding continues especially in areas that have already picked up inches of rain from previous days with saturated grounds.

A Flood Advisory remains active across northeastern Henderson County through 2 PM Tuesday, with 3 to 6 inches of rain already measured. Impacts include minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, as well as water over roadways. Remember, if you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around and find an alternate route.

Why This Week Gets Wet

Our area has now seen several back to back days of rainfall. While some locations stayed relatively dry, others are already saturated. That’s a problem because when more rain falls on ground that’s already waterlogged, creeks respond quickly, and even moderate thunderstorms can trigger localized flooding in poor drainage areas and low-lying zones. The Upstate — which received less rain Monday but still substantial amounts over recent days — faces the strongest signal for heavy rainfall Tuesday.

Tuesday’s Threat: Heavy Rain + Possible Strong Storms

Widespread showers and thunderstorms develop during the afternoon across the entire region Tuesday, a First Alert Weather Day. Heavy rainfall persists into this evening before clearing after sunset. Highs reach the mid to upper 70s area wide.

Here’s what makes Tuesday dicey: A handful of strong thunderstorms are possible, with a low-end severe threat that can’t be ruled out. Damaging winds pose the primary severe weather threat.

Even non-severe storms pack frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy downpours. Localized nuisance flooding is possible across the Upstate and Blue Ridge Escarpment (the higher elevations along the South Carolina-North Carolina border), with an isolated flash flood possible in areas receiving multiple rounds of heavy rain, leading to the call of Tuesday being a First Alert Weather Day.

What Happens This Week

Wednesday through Sunday continues daily rain chances. It doesn’t rain every single hour, but showers and thunderstorms pop up across the area daily — especially in the afternoons and evenings. Each round of rainfall soaks the ground more, raising flood potential as the week progresses.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday look to be the driest days with just a slight chance each afternoon for a few showers and storms. Otherwise it’s partly cloudy to mostly sunny so some good chances to get outside…
