Visitors can meet Agatha, a young female turkey vulture, during a visit to the WNC Nature Center daily from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Vultures, also known as buzzards, are scavenging birds, which feed on the remains of dead animals. Turkey vultures have long been perceived as loathsome creatures because of their repulsive feeding habits, but they play an important role by “cleaning up” dead animals from forests, roadways, and fields.
After rehabilitation at the Carolina Raptor Center, Agatha was deemed un-releasable. At about one year old, she’s settling into the aviary alongside fellow turkey vulture Morticia. Visit the WNC Nature Center to meet them and other native animals…
