Roof company alleges tape manufacturer responsible in middle school pool roof dispute

JEFFERSON — A Fletcher roofing company claims that a manufacturing defect in butyl tape used on the Ashe County Middle School pool roof caused the damages alleged by the Ashe County Board of Education.

The Ashe County Board of Education filed a civil complaint against WNC Roofing, LLC, in October 2025 for an alleged breach of contract regarding roof repairs.

The pool roof at Ashe County Middle School was damaged by a storm on Feb. 13, 2022. BOE entered into a contract in July 2022 with WNC Roofing, LLC, to supply labor and materials to repair the middle school pool roof, according to court documents…
