Repeat offender convicted on cocaine trafficking and habitual felon charges

A Buncombe County man with a lengthy criminal record was sentenced to 87 to 117 months in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of cocaine trafficking and attaining habitual felon status.

Henry Christopher Aiken, 56, entered the guilty pleas Aug. 11 in Buncombe County Superior Court. Judge Jacqueline Grant ordered him to begin serving the sentence immediately and imposed a mandatory $50,000 fine.

Aiken was prosecuted as a habitual felon based on multiple prior felony convictions, including drug, breaking-and-entering and receiving-stolen-property convictions dating back to 1988. He also was previously convicted of attaining habitual felon status and failing to register as a sex offender, resulting in a 9- to 11-year prison sentence in 2007…
