ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Nearly two years after Helene devastated parts of Asheville, city leaders are looking ahead to what the future could look like in one of the hardest-hit areas along the Swannanoa River.
The Azalea Road area suffered major damage during Helene, including the destruction of the Gashes Creek Bridge and extensive erosion along the riverbanks. The city is now working on a long-term plan to rebuild the area with a focus on recreation, transportation and resiliency.
