A woman who spent about three hours in the Buncombe County jail before being hospitalized for medical distress died a week later, marking the second death involving a jail detainee in August and the third this year.
Amy Owenby was booked into the jail shortly after 6 p.m. Aug. 24 on outstanding warrants. She was transported to Mission Hospital just before 9 p.m. that evening after displaying signs of medical distress. Owenby was released on bond but remained hospitalized until her death Aug. 31.
