HENDERSONVILLE – Nearly two years ago, the Hickory Nut Gorge in Henderson County was one of the places hit hardest by flooding caused by Tropical Storm Helene. The area continues to feel the knock-on effects.
Ongoing work to repair road damage from flooding has meant longer response times for ambulances trying to reach severe emergencies in Bat Cave and Gerton. And that could soon get worse. Since July, there’s been no ambulance crew stationed in the gorge equipped to handle the most serious emergencies.
Any delay “could be life-threatening,” Gerton volunteer firefighter and retired EMT Karl Bradley told the Times-News Sept. 16. “Especially with a critical patient with heart problems.”…
