Nearly 2 years after Helene, some bridges still await repairs in western North Carolina

EDNEYVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Nearly two years after Helene devastated western North Carolina, some bridges that were destroyed by the storm remain without repairs or reconstruction.

Ray Lyda, an apple farmer in Edneyville, says he has tried to call the North Carolina Department of Transportation for an answer on why the agency hasn’t started to rebuild two Helene-destroyed bridges on public roads in the heart of apple country.

“Frustrated, I guess, would be one word,” Lyda said. “The money’s been appropriated.”…
