A Buncombe County woman named Candace recently received a full delivery of brand-new furniture and household essentials through a program called House in a Box, giving her family a tangible step forward two years after Tropical Storm Helene tore through the region. The delivery arrived last week, connecting her with beds, dressers, cookware, and other basics she needed to rebuild a livable home.
A Program Born From Katrina, Now Serving Western NC

, Candace was connected to the resources through its Disaster Case Management team, which helped her family access what they needed to recover. NC Emergency Management also credits partners including American Red Cross North Carolina and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul with helping Western North Carolina recover.
