Three parties would pay $7.61 million plus interest to resolve claims for past cleanup costs at the CTS of Asheville Superfund site under a proposed federal settlement. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is accepting public comments on the agreement through October 21st, 2026.
The proposal involves CTS Corporation, Mills Gap Road Associates and Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation. It concerns the approximately nine-acre site at 235 Mills Gap Road in Asheville, Buncombe County, where EPA says releases or threatened releases of hazardous substances prompted response work and federal spending.
Under the agreement, the parties would have 30 days after its effective date to pay EPA. Interest would be added to the $7,610,000 principal for the period beginning March 16th, 2026, and continuing until payment, so the total due would exceed the stated settlement amount…
