Imagine settling into a quiet cabin in the North Carolina mountains — then, near midnight, emergency sirens start blaring through the woods. That’s what happened to hiking creator Laura, and her video of the terrifying moment has now been watched 27 million times.
Laura, who posts as @lauralearnstohike on TikTok, was staying at a cabin in Lake Lure, North Carolina, when flood sirens and a booming emergency voice alert shattered the night. The alert warned: “Be prepared to move to higher ground… Emergency management has issued a flood watch for your area.” In her caption, Laura wrote: “After Hurricane Helene devastated this area 2 years ago, I was completely freaked out.” She later described it as “one of the scariest moments of my life” — and said, “It sounded like an apocalypse.”
