Hopes were high in 2014, when Emily Sutton Dezio, fellow Enka-Candler residents, and representatives of Buncombe County and the Enka Commerce Park came together with a vision to create a greenway along Hominy Creek.
They imagined a 2.5-mile walking and cycling path by the future Bob Lewis Ballpark offering safe routes to parks and local schools.
“I thought, ‘Oh, that would be such a cool walking trail — walk out of your house and have access to parks,’” Sutton Dezio said. “I started this project when my child was entering first grade, and I wanted her to have walkability to schools.”…
