Violent crime drops 19% in Asheville as police recruitment shows promising signs

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) – Interim Asheville Police Chief Mike Lamb revealed data that indicates Asheville may be turning a corner when it comes to violent crime. Lamb reported a 19% drop in violent crime this January compared to January of last year. This follows an 18% violent crime drop in all of 2023. There are also signs the department may be getting traction with filling vacancies after 2021’s mass exodus of 77 officers.
