ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – Police in Asheville have made an arrest in connection with a December double homicide.
The Asheville Police Department said 27-year-old Tristin Marquese Maewether was arrested and charged with murder, kidnapping, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
According to police, the shooting happened around 11:20 p.m. on December 22, 2023 at a business in the 300 block of New Leicester Highway.
Investigators found a man, 30-year-old Chase Christian VanLeeuwen, shot to death inside the business.
Half an hour later, a second victim, 20-year-old Marckia Ornette Jones, arrived at Mission Hospital with a gunshot wound where she later died.
Asheville Police said Maewether’s charges were in connection with VanLeeuwen’s death.
Maewether was already in the custody of the North Carolina Department of Corrections for a parole violation.
He has since been booked into the Buncombe County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
Police said their investigation remains active and ongoing.
