Buncombe files federal complaint citing $3 million loss due to HCA/Mission Hospital policy

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) – New impacts of understaffing at Mission Hospital are detailed in a 19-page federal complaint filed by Buncombe County. The complaint filed Sept. 4, 2024, details a $3 million impact to county taxpayers, while patients have been forced to wait in Mission Hospital’s Emergency Department. The case was initially filed in Buncombe County State Court and was recently removed and filed in federal court in Asheville. It is similar to the effort to be added to North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein’s complaint against HCA.
