James Beard Award-winning restaurant group sets opening date of new downtown eatery

The opening of Botiwalla by Chai Pani’s newest location marks a significant milestone for Asheville’s culinary scene.

On Oct. 4, Botiwalla will debut at 22 Battery Park Ave., a space that holds a special place in the hearts of locals—it’s where the award-winning Chai Pani first opened its doors 15 years ago.

Chai Pani, a 2022 James Beard Award winner for Outstanding Restaurant, relocated in May to a larger venue at 32 Banks Ave. in Asheville’s South Slope brewing district.

As the flagship restaurant celebrated its 15th anniversary on Sept. 23, owners Chef Meherwan and Molly Irani reflected on their journey, highlighting the gratitude they feel for the community and their dedicated team.

Botiwalla will continue the tradition of bringing Indian street food to Asheville, with its grand opening on Oct. 4 at 11:30 a.m.

The Irani family looks forward to expanding their presence in downtown Asheville while honoring the roots of their original location.
