DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Six days after Ohio Task Force 1 was assembled to assist with disaster relief in Florida, the team has been dismissed and sent to another state in desperate need.
Ohio Task Force 1 is now in North Carolina. They’ll be working in Asheville, which has impacted thousands of people with flooding and landslides.
With experience in similar circumstances in eastern Kentucky in 2022, they hope they’ll have an edge that’ll allow them to work quickly and help however they can.

“It’s gonna be challenging to get into areas. But with the folks we have on this deployment with Ohio Task Force 1, they’re very well trained. Not something that we can’t overcome to do what we need to do to clear those areas,” said Task Force Leader John Kaminski.
As of now, Ohio Task Force 1 leaders are unsure how much time they’ll be spending in North Carolina but are prepared to stay and help as long as needed.
Nearly 120 people have died across six states, and hundreds more are missing.
