Victim in Hot Springs shooting homicide ID’d as husband of alleged shooter

HOT SPRINGS — The identity of the victim in a Hot Springs shooting homicide was released Oct. 25, the same day the accused was in court for a first appearance.

According to court records, Paula Plemmons Garrett, 50, is accused of felony murder in the shooting homicide Oct. 24 of her husband, Charles Timothy Garrett, both of Hot Springs.

This is the first homicide reported in Madison County this year.

Paula Garrett is being held in the Madison County Detention Center and will be assigned legal representation through the Office of Indigent Defense Services’ Capital Defender Office in Durham, court records state.

Her next court date is scheduled for Nov. 4.

Garrett was previously employed in home health care, according to the court records.

Madison County Sheriff Buddy Harwood announced the homicide in a Facebook post Oct. 24. Sheriff’s Office detectives have been working with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to assist in the case.
