A 40-year-old Yancey County man is the latest reported North Carolina fatality resulting from Tropical Storm Helene.
The state death toll is now 103, according to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. The majority of deaths have been reported in Western North Carolina, which Helene hit particularly hard when it swept through the region Sept. 27 causing torrential flooding and devastating landslides.
The latest fatality in Yancey County occurred Nov. 12 when a gravel truck overturned killing the driver. According to N.C. DHHS, the driver, who was not publicly identified, was assisting in storm clean up.
He is the 11th fatality reported in Yancey County.
