Madison housing nonprofit forms long-term recovery group for residents impacted by Helene

MARSHALL – While many have expressed how moved they are by the cleanup and relief efforts in Marshall after Tropical Storm Helene, they know the work is only just beginning, particularly for Rollins residents .

In the Marshall Town Board’s first monthly meeting since Helene devastated downtown Marshall and downtown Hot Springs, Mayor Aaron Haynie and Town Administrator Forrest Gilliam spoke about their pride in the community’s resilience and compassion for one another in the relief efforts.

Relief efforts are particularly concentrated in the Rollins community of Marshall, a neighborhood with a number of generational families located under the railroad, about 1 mile north of downtown Marshall with roughly 30 houses along the French Broad River.

Community Housing Coalition, a community-based nonprofit agency that facilitates urgent home repairs to low-income Madison County residents in need of assistance, is working with Nanostead, a company that designs and builds sustainable custom tiny homes in Western North Carolina and offers green-built certified homes showcasing quality craftsmanship, to help meet the housing needs of Rollins residents.
