Missing NC father accused of attacking deputy with knife; daughter found safe

HAYWOOD COUNTY, NC (WSPA) – The father and daughter that have been missing for almost three weeks have been found, according to the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office. On December 20, deputies responded to a call about a suspicious person near Harmon Den horse camp. Upon arrival, officers identified the subject as 42-year-old Michael Shope, who has been missing since December 3 along with his daughter. Shope was reportedly armed with a knife, and attacked the deputy, who fired his weapon in self-defense.
