Since relocating from Asheville, North Carolina to Moab in 2019, Blaine Reniger has dedicated himself to uncovering and sharing the area’s rich and varied history.
Drawn to the unique blend of natural wonders and the evolution of the region’s culture, he quickly began exploring Moab and the surrounding area’s “versatile” past, which spans Indigenous heritage, archaeology, exploration, pioneers, mining, cowboys, outlaws and the national parks.
“I just fell in love with the history here,” Reniger said. “It’s so easy for history to be lost and engulfed in modern times, but I’ve just been seeking to keep that history alive, and that comes in the form of education.”
As a local, self-taught historian, backcountry guide and founder of the organization History Moab, Reniger has developed a wide range of programs and initiatives aimed at ensuring Moab’s stories are not only preserved but also shared with locals, visitors and future generations.
