Buncombe County deputy ‘seriously injured’ in dog attack, fatally shot resident’s pet

ASHEVILLE – After responding to a call about a dog running loose in Candler, a Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control deputy was “seriously injured” before he shot and killed a resident’s dog, officials said.

Around 4 p.m. on Jan. 23, Deputy D. Robinson knocked on the door of a residence on Snow Hill Church Road while investigating the report of a dog on the loose, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

When the resident answered the door, a “large dog” charged the deputy and bit his left hand, the release said. When the pet “would not let go,” the deputy unsuccessfully tried to use his Taser. The sheriff’s office did not detail what this attempted non-lethal force looked like and why it was “unsuccessful.”…
