Columbus County Schools substitute teacher suspended after allegedly calling students racial slurs

COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – A Columbus County Schools substitute teacher has been accused of referring to African American students as ‘slaves’ and ‘monkeys.’

According to a press release, John Barnett, a Civil Rights activist, received a call from two mothers who reported that their daughters were called “racially-charged words by their teacher.”

According to Barnett, the teacher accused has since been suspended but he says it won’t make these students forget…
