Pro-democracy and environmental activists will gather for events in Brevard and Hendersonville on the Saturday of Easter Weekend. Here’s everything you need to know if you’re planning to attend:
Brevard: Defend Democracy. Guard the Earth.
“Speak Up. Show Up. We Will Persist,” a virtual flyer publicizing Brevard’s April 19 event reads. “This is not left vs. right. This is us coming together to protect the only home we have.”
“Defend Democracy. Guard the Earth,” is sponsored by Good Trouble Transylvania, the NAACP, the Transylvania Partnership for Democracy, Transylvania Young Progressives and the Transylvania County Democratic Party, according to the flyer.
It falls on a “Day of Action” promoted by the national grassroots activist movement 50501, or “50 States, 50 Protests, 1 Movement,” which encourages the idea of holding independent rallies across all 50 states on a given day, in “response to authoritarian threats, political overreach, and the erosion of democracy.”…
