High-ranking officials spotlight Western North Carolina’s ongoing recovery efforts

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, Lee Forsgren, is visiting Asheville in honor of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) reaching the milestone of removing five million cubic yards of debris in Western North Carolina during its FEMA-assigned Hurricane Helene recovery mission.

According to a release, Forsgren provides policy and performance oversight for the USACE Civil Works program.

The release said his visit marks the highest-ranking Department of Defense (DOD) official to visit Hurricane Helene’s aftermath, “signifying the continued prioritization of Western North Carolina’s recovery mission.”…
