ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Two Western North Carolina firefighters will be among 140 honored nationwide at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend on May 3-4 in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
The WNC firefighters being honored are:
- Battalion Chief Tony Ray Garrison, 51, of the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department. He died on Sept. 27, 2024, from injuries he sustained during his response to Hurricane Helene.
- Captain Jeffrey M. Lyons, 61, of the Asheville Fire Department. He died on Nov. 16, 2022, from complications of cancer.
They are two of 11 North Carolina firefighters being honored for their service at the 44th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, which is hosted by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, according to a news release.
