CHEROKEE, N.C. (WLOS) — Fifty-five veterans attended the inaugural Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Tribal Veterans Stand Down, an event designed to provide essential services to veterans on April 25.
The gathering offered Medicaid enrollments, health screenings, mental health services, employee assistance, gear distribution, and haircuts, all free of charge through Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM) Veterans Services of the Carolinas.
“It’s important to have these events because it provides services to our veterans,” said Gerard Ball from the North Carolina Department of Commerce Veterans Services. “Whether it be VA healthcare, mental health, whatever service — at this ‘Stand Down,’ we can get it all in one location — provide for the veteran, they come through; it’s a one-stop shop.”
