Henderson County shares storm debris update, spending concerns, at Board meeting

HENDERSONVILLE – The “light at the end of the tunnel” is in sight for storm cleanup in Henderson County. Though costs have been running high, spending is not out of control and is supposed to be largely reimbursed by the federal government, county officials said, reporting on debris removal progress at a Board of Commissioners meeting May 5.

The first public comment of the evening was from Sam Massa, a part-time firefighter and EMT from Mill’s River. He asked for the county’s help with debris removal from a privately maintained road.

He estimated that 20 truckloads of debris, or 500 trees, remained along the road that he helped clear, which would have to be moved to the public roadway for pickup…
